Comments on upcoming tech (Phones Edition)

Being in sales of tech means keeping up with new things.
One of the big things on the horizon is the new Galaxy S4 and the Blackberry Q10.
Same week release too up here in Canada, so it shall be interesting.
Extra time during work the last few days I have been checking the spec breakdown of the Galaxy S4, comparing it to some other new phones.

Being the owner of a Galaxy SII I have experience with Samsung's hardware. I skipped the S3 as I didn't see as much of an improvement over the 2. Slightly better screen and an interesting tap feature, but both have Ice Cram Sandwich and Jelly Bean (Those are the two newest Android OS's). So I didn't want to switch up. I have not really been a user of the Touch Wiz interface. Even the older one that came with the S2 was overly simple. Good for some users who like it simple. I use Nova right now as a launcher which is ICS and higher. Gives me more Icons and pages. For the S3 I am interested to see how they have refined Touch Wiz. It works great on their tablets like the Note 10.1, and on the Galaxy Note 2. It should have more options, and hopefully more icons on the home screen.
Noteable changes include an even better screen. Full 1080p on a 5in screen. Insane considering that a 60in TV still has the same resolution. But the question here is, can you actually notice it? Its a huge jump from my 480p S2. The S3 was 720p, amazing at the time, but still only slightly sharper when I looked at it on friends phones. Even phones like the Motorola Razr V, which is a mid range phone, has a 540p screen. But Samsung makes amazing displays and I compared it to the V and liked the color better. Look at the iphone 5 though, not any higher than the 4 but wider, still only 640p, which oddly is still lower than the S3. Samsung is a king of displays, somehow making it better and better. But oddly enough, we have already had a 1080p phone the Sony Experia Z which has been out a while has this, and even the same 13mp camera as the S3. The only hardware difference is the better processor in the S4, but they are both quad core. But with so much power and ram do we need to nit pick the small details. It comes down to software. This is still where Samsung tries to innovate. Here we have a touch screen that now reads your finger before you touch it, and can even scroll by tracking your eye movement. All really great ideas, but again does it work and how much does it improve the experience on the phone. I am excited to see how people like the features, and I hope I can try them.

As technology expands and advances, I still wonder what will be necessary, what people will use and what will fall away. I always try to anticipate what I will use and what ideas I like.

Next blog post I think I will focus on smart watches, the possible effects of them and how I have seen their effects thus far. Some articles have said that they will be the next big thing by the end of the year with many developers working on them after the surprise success of the pebble on kickstarter.

Might talk more about the Q10 and Z10 after I read up a bit more. Links are welcome!

Here are links to the stuff talked about if you are interested and want to google or what ever search you use about them.
